Energy & Lights: Innovative, Effective and Natural Healing

As a Physician Assistant with more than three decades of experience providing health care in the Grand Rapids community, Mary Wisniewski has always been passionate about studying alternative modalities to help herself, family and others who wanted to complement Western medicine with alternative natural health options.

When she learned about pulsed low-level light therapy (LLLT) and saw the amazing healing benefits of using the technique, she decided to empower and educate others by becoming a Professional Certified Light Therapist. Her business, Energy and Lights, is the result.

LLLT uses near infrared light with blue and/or red light, which is applied directly to the body using pads containing pulsed low-level light emitting diodes (LEDs) to disperse the light. wave energy.  It was first discovered to have beneficial medical uses in 1967 by Endre Mester at the Semmelweis Medical University in Hungary.

Initially, LLLT was not widely accepted in the medical community. This was likely due to a lack of scientific understanding regarding the mechanisms of action at a molecular, cellular and tissue-based level. Thousands of independent medical and scientific research studies later, LLLT has moved to the forefront as a reliable method to deliver therapeutic healing benefits for a multitude of physical & emotional problems. In 2016, Michael R. Hamblin, Ph.D., at Boston’s Wellman Center for Photomedicine, wrote that light therapy has made “major progress in obtaining recognition from authorities in medical schools, scholarly journals, the popular press and media, medical practitioners, therapists and other bodies concerned with biomedical science.”

“Pulsed light wave technology is one of the most profound, non-invasive, drug-free way to stimulate the innate capacity to heal the body from within,” says Wisniewski. “It assists the body to heal itself naturally on a cellular level, safely complementing your healthcare provider’s treatment.”

Indeed, the mass of science based medical research on this no-down-time treatment continues to grow, as LLLT is repeatedly shown to help in new ways. There is medical research evidence that supports Light Therapy especially (Red and Near Infra Red) can be used to accelerate wound healing, reduce inflammation, control pain, kill antibiotic resistant strains of MRSA, and assist with neurorehabilitation for strokes, traumatic brain or spinal cord injuries. Beneficial applications include disorders of the joints, nervous system, skin, immune system and organs.

“LLLT stimulates a cellular response that triggers the release of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is involved in every biological function in the body and its release ignites a cascade of beneficial chemical reactions that stimulate healing,” says Wisniewski, adding that nitric oxide increases circulation, which then increases the supply of oxygen and nutrients to every part of the body.

Not only are the benefits of the treatment diverse, the therapy can be done at home. LLLT units are affordable, portable and simple to use.
